How we work these numbers out
- Order. “Best match” puts schools where your exact word comes up first. “Most talked about” uses the share of reviews that mention it. Neither is a ranking of how good a school is.
- Comes up in X% of reviews is the share of the school's reviews that mention your search. The Brisbane average is the same share across all Brisbane schools.
- Speak well, mixed or raise concerns is worked out by software, using only the sentences about your search. It's right most of the time but not always, so read what people said.
- What students did comes from the sports and activities former students ticked in their review. We show it when at least 3 answered.
- Evidence is strong when 5 or more of at least 10 reviews mention it, some when 2 or more people do, and thin when only one person does.
- Facts such as fees, ATAR and enrolments come from each school's own documents. Fees cover different year levels at different schools, so compare carefully.
- Open Day Reflections come from our visits to 2026 open days. They're useful, but they reflect the school's own voice.

Review The surrounding area and safety
There are some major roads around school but they all have traffic lights to cross safely at, I believe also sometimes catching trains and buses from southbank could be tricky for students trying to get home as it was always very busy.

Bullying wasn’t a major issue for me personally, but like any large school, it did exist in some form. The school had clear policies in place and encouraged students to report issues, though how effective it was could depend on the situation. I generally felt safe getting to and from school — it’s in a busy area with lots of foot traffic and public transport options. That said, there were a few busy roads nearby, so crossing safely was important, and the school often reminded students to be cautious.

QASMT wasn't the best at variety in terms of subject choices. It was very limited, and there was a strict structure for the selection process (for example, everyone had to do a language). Additionally, in my grade at least, the school removed subject options such as the Arts in Grade 11 since there were a low number of students that did it in Grade 10. Those students were then forced to pick up another subject, such as chemistry, instead. To be fair, SMT in QASMT stands for science, maths, and technology. The subjects, therefore, reflect this in offering courses mainly in these areas. There were a lot fewer creative subjects that could be found in the other QA school, QACI (creative industries). Instead, it offered subjects such as ITGS ('information technology in a global society') which would probably not be found commonly elsewhere.

Overall, bullying rates at the school are quite low due to the large percentage of students being too busy focusing on their academics. However, in the instances when bullying does occur the school has a really good system of house deans/councillors which takes bullying very seriously, and works fast to mitigate the situation. The system that the school employs takes the students concerns very seriously, so bullying is never a big issue. As well as bullying, the school also takes mental health issues very seriously and the house deans/councillors are all very supportive and attentive to student concerns and problems. The Toowong area is also quite safe, as the surrounding areas are just suburban houses. Unless you are crossing illegally on moggil road, the school is not located near any suspicious people/areas and is generally really safe.
Review Coaching and chances to compete
Coaches hired were usually just alumnis, and there were hardly professional coaches. Students were given the chance to train and develop, however, these opportunities were few.

Review The surrounding area and safety
There is a large issue with transport to school, as often there are highway congestion’s and heavy traffic before and after school times.

Review Why we chose this school
I selected Mansfield State High because of its outstanding academic achievements and moved houses to make sure my child could conveniently take public transport to school.
Review Bullying and getting to school safely
Bullying was not an issue at my school, as there was a strong focus on respect and inclusivity. I always felt safe getting to and from school, with minimal risks in the area. The school maintained a secure environment through supervision, clear rules, and a supportive community.

Review The surrounding area and safety
The school is located in a generally safe suburban area. However, there are some busy roads nearby, especially Moggill Road, which can be a concern for students crossing. There are supervised crossings to help with this. No major hazards like flood-prone areas or suspicious loiterers have been an issue.

Review Bullying and getting to school safely
Bullying was not a major issue at my school, but there were occasional incidents. The school usually responded quickly by having teachers talk to the students involved and by reminding everyone about respect and kindness during assemblies.

Getting to school could be a challenge sometimes. There were bus stops very close on all sides of the school, however students who walked part or most of the way had to deal with the roundabout nearby. Any official crossings were so far they weren't worth walking the extra distance and most students would just cross through the centre which was extremely unsafe. I believe there was a death at that roundabout but I don't know if it was a student or not.

Review Bullying and getting to school safely
I am still not sure, and I hardly remember any bullying at least in my class. I only attended the school for my final 2 years. From my experience the roads weren't busy nor anything suspicious happened. I don't know about the current state. Im very less knowledgable in this area
