Brisbane school sport leagues, mapped

GPS, QGSSSA, AIC and the rest are groups of schools that play each other. Your school's league decides who your child plays, which day, and where the games are.

8 leagues72 schoolsChecked 18 October 2026

Eight leagues at a glance

Tap a league to see its schools on the map and what it plays each term.

Explore a league

Pick a league, then a school, to see how far each opponent's campus is from that school's campus, with directions for the drive.

Loading the map…

Distances are in a straight line from the campus of the school you choose, not from your home, so the drive is usually longer. Tap Directions for the route and travel time. Grounds come from each league's 2026 fixtures; check your school's draw for the exact ground each week.

State high schools

Apart from Brisbane State High, state high schools play nearby state schools, mostly in school time on a weekday afternoon or at full-day gala days. Winners go on to Metropolitan finals.

Search your school above to see its competition, game days, named opponents, sport calendar and district. We've read the sport pages of 44 Brisbane state schools, last on 26 October 2026, and say so when a school doesn't publish something.

Students at any school can also trial for district, regional and state teams through Queensland School Sport.

Ask on a school tour

  • Which days are games, and how many Saturdays a term?
  • Does every student have to play, or is it optional?
  • How many teams do you field, and do kids outside the top team get regular games?
  • Where are away games played, and who gets students there?
  • Can my child keep playing club sport on weekends?

Questions parents ask

Is GPS a ranking of the best schools?

No. GPS, QGSSSA, AIC and the rest are sport associations: groups of schools that play each other. A league tells you who your child will play against and on which day, not how good the school is. Many strong schools play in other leagues or in district sport.

Is Brisbane State High a private school?

No. Brisbane State High is a state school. It is the only state school in GPS (for its boys) and QGSSSA (for its girls), a membership that dates back to the 1920s.

Do girls at co-ed schools play GPS?

No. GPS is for boys. At co-ed schools in boys' leagues, girls play in a girls' league instead: Brisbane State High girls play QGSSSA, and so do the girls at St Peters Lutheran College, whose boys play AIC. Clayfield College's girls also play QGSSSA.

Which leagues play on Saturdays?

GPS, QGSSSA, AIC, TAS, GBC play mostly on Saturdays. QGSSSA plays some sports on Friday afternoons and others on Saturday mornings. CaSSSA and ISC play on Wednesday afternoons, and SECA plays on Thursdays in school time.

Is Saturday sport compulsory?

That is up to each school, not the league. Some schools expect every student to play in a school team; others make it optional. Ask the school directly, and ask how often students play when they aren't in a top team.

What about state high schools?

State high schools play interschool sport in their local district, mostly in school time and at gala days, with winning teams going on to Metropolitan finals. Search a state school in the finder at the top to see its competition, game days and district as the school publishes them. Any student, at any school, can also trial for district, regional and state representative teams.

How we put this together

Every membership comes from the league's own website, a member school's sport page, or the league's current fixtures and ladders, checked on 18 October 2026. Terms come from each league's calendar or a member school's sport handbook. Grounds and venues come from each league's 2026 fixtures, which name the ground for every game, and from the leagues' carnival listings. Each league links its sources. If something has changed, emailhello@schoolinsights.com.au with a link and we'll update the page. Sport icons from Tabler Icons.

Found the league? Now read what sport is like there, from students who played.

Recent graduates and parents describe the teaching, wellbeing, bullying, sport for kids outside the top teams, and what they wish they'd known before enrolling. Every reviewer is verified.
