Why we chose this school

I selected Mansfield State High because of its outstanding academic achievements and moved houses to make sure my child could conveniently take public transport to school.

What we like and dislike

I like the academic programs the school provides and the music and culture programs. I dislike the bullying system and child support the school gives.

Compared with other schools

The school uses many different apps and portals for online learning such as education perfect, acer, and other school portals for uniform or tuck shop. This provides the students with simple ways to access learning or other needs, proving to be highly effective.

Balancing academics and wellbeing

I think that the school does an okay job, as they do provide counselling for students who are struggling with mental although the councillors do seem to have little to no effect, as previous students have said they are useless and don’t help at all.

Expectations versus reality

I had high academic expectations for Mansfield and was greatly pleased, as the school has many high achievers who get into great courses and the teachers are highly skilled at teaching and controlling classes.

Support for students who struggle

There is an okay level of support for students who struggle with learning, as the school only provides them with a teacher to support them. They do not provide much encouragement to try to learn and just offer them guidance and support.

Bullying and the social scene

The school only makes minor adjustments when a child is going through bullying, and there is a large amount of students who treat certain children different. The school often sends emails home and provides the student with consolation, often seeming to not work at all.

The surrounding area and safety

There is a large issue with transport to school, as often there are highway congestion’s and heavy traffic before and after school times.

The parent community

There are many outer school events where parents get to know each-other such as parent meeting and school sport events. This makes a very close parent community and it is extremely easy to meet other parents.

How the school works with parents

The school engages parents in many activities and listen to their suggestions quite well. Mansfield often uses parent volunteers to run events such as formal, basketball, and touch. They also allow suggestions for improvement through email, showing that the school cares about parent opinions.

Experience of the sports program

My child was in the Mansfield basketball team and highly enjoyed it. The coach was extremely supportive and the team was extremely inclusive. It was one of my child’s favourite experiences during his high school journey.

Experience of arts activities

My child was a member of the school band and also greatly enjoyed it. He got to play many different enjoyable songs and showcased his ability at many different stages outside and inside of school. The teachers are extremely talented and there is a large variety of instruments for the students to play.

Year 12 subject choices

In Grade 12, I chose Physics and Engineering because of my strong interest in understanding how things work and applying scientific principles to real-world problems. These subjects provided a solid foundation for my passion for electrical work and problem-solving. Looking back, I have no regrets, as they aligned perfectly with my goals.

Getting extra help

Teachers were generally accessible and willing to help students struggling in core subjects. They offered extra support through after-school sessions, one-on-one guidance, and helpful resources. Peer tutoring and study groups also played a role in assisting students. The supportive environment made it easier to seek help and improve understanding.

Readiness for life after school

By the time I graduated, I felt fairly prepared for life after high school. The combination of practical subjects like Physics and Engineering, along with a strong support system from teachers, gave me confidence in pursuing further education and future career opportunities. However, I also recognized that there was still a lot to learn and adapt to, especially in university or the workforce.

Subject range and curiosity

Yes, my school offered a wide range of subject choices, allowing students to explore diverse interests beyond the core curriculum. It encouraged curiosity by offering extracurricular activities, hands-on projects, and special interest clubs related to different fields like science, art, and technology. Teachers also emphasized critical thinking and real-world applications, making learning more engaging than just preparing for exams. These opportunities helped foster a deeper love for learning and encouraged students to pursue their passions.

Bullying and getting to school safely

Bullying was not an issue at my school, as there was a strong focus on respect and inclusivity. I always felt safe getting to and from school, with minimal risks in the area. The school maintained a secure environment through supervision, clear rules, and a supportive community.

School culture

My school's culture was a balanced mix of discipline and support. It maintained clear rules and high expectations while fostering a welcoming and motivating environment. The approach was more modern, emphasizing critical thinking and practical learning rather than just memorization. This created a structured

Something only students would know

One unique thing only students would know about my school is that there was an unspoken rule about the best spots to hang out during breaks. Whether it was a hidden corner of the library, a specific bench with the best breeze, or a quiet hallway, everyone had their favorite spot

Coaching and chances to compete

My school’s coaches were dedicated to developing students, both in skill and character. They provided regular training, encouraged personal growth, and focused on teamwork. Students had opportunities to compete in school teams, and for those with exceptional talent, there were pathways to higher-level competitions. The coaches were supportive, pushing athletes to excel while maintaining a balanced approach, ensuring everyone could participate and improve at their own pace. Their guidance helped foster discipline, resilience, and teamwork, making the experience valuable beyond just competition.

Chances to take part in the arts

My school offered diverse arts programs, including music, drama, and visual arts, fostering creativity with supportive teachers and opportunities.
