How we work these numbers out
- Order. “Best match” puts schools where your exact word comes up first. “Most talked about” uses the share of reviews that mention it. Neither is a ranking of how good a school is.
- Comes up in X% of reviews is the share of the school's reviews that mention your search. The Brisbane average is the same share across all Brisbane schools.
- Speak well, mixed or raise concerns is worked out by software, using only the sentences about your search. It's right most of the time but not always, so read what people said.
- What students did comes from the sports and activities former students ticked in their review. We show it when at least 3 answered.
- Evidence is strong when 5 or more of at least 10 reviews mention it, some when 2 or more people do, and thin when only one person does.
- Facts such as fees, ATAR and enrolments come from each school's own documents. Fees cover different year levels at different schools, so compare carefully.
- Open Day Reflections come from our visits to 2026 open days. They're useful, but they reflect the school's own voice.

I like the academic programs the school provides and the music and culture programs. I dislike the bullying system and child support the school gives.

Indooroopilly integrates technology well but could improve: Interactive whiteboards and BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) policies enhance learning. The Q parents app is nice although more training for parents on digital tools and upgrading Wi-Fi infrastructure Would be recommended.

We chose Indooroopilly State High School because of its strong academic reputation, diverse student community, and excellent extracurricular offerings, especially in music, STEM and language programs. We live within the catchment, so no major move was needed, but we did consider private options and decided Indooroopilly SHS provided comparable quality without the high tuition fees. We absolutely feel the school is worth it given the quality of teaching, facilities and the wide range of opportunities available to students. It has met and, in many ways, exceeded our expectations.

QASMT is a school where the experience greatly depends on your character. It is fast-paced, competitive and highly academic-focused. If you thrive in these environments and are disciplined and self-motivated, I would highly recommend QA to you. Not only are you surrounded by like-minded students whose focus is all on achieving good grades, which in turn motivates you to work harder, but the school provides an abundance of academic-based opportunities such as clubs and events to increase your knowledge. On the other hand, if you tend to procrastinate or are not very disciplined, QASMT will likely be more harmful than good. It is incredibly easy to fall behind on studies due to the difficult nature of the IB program, and I, along with many others, were burnt out and sleep-deprived, particularly in the senior years. The IB program demands much more than the ATAR system- we have to write an extended essay, do philosophy (TOK) and undergo the CAS (creativity, activity, service) program on top of the six regular subjects. Additionally, the subjects offered at QA are much more restricting than other schools. Ultimately, whether I recommend QASMT depends on the person. If you work well under high pressure and can stay on top of your studies, then I would recommend it as it provides an environment where you can shine. On the other hand, it is incredibly demanding and stressful, so if you struggle with procrastination or do not care much for academics, then QASMT is not for you (and that's okay!).

The school environment and constantly being surrounded by people that are also so hard-working and motivated definitely had the largest positive impact on me in terms of encouraging me to achieve my best. IB is an extremely academically demanding program, and as a result, my last final 2 years really tested my ability to time manage, balance my extracurriculars and work efficiently. These skills I feel have allowed me to find strengths and weaknesses in studying which was useful in university. Furthermore, as a result of school's emphasis on STEM, students at SMT often get the opportunity to join many university based programs, listen to specialists and attend seminars, all of which I know has inspired many students to pursue a career in STEM> Overall, my interactions with my teachers, and their willingness to always help, as well as their genuine passion for teaching has left a lasting impact on my view on ability to communicate my problems and seek help. I know the teachers at SMT has not only inspired but also challenged the students to always keep learning.

As mentioned previously, QASMT is highly competitive and academics-focused. Students strive for good grades, and this culture is supported by the school itself in the way that award ceremonies are constantly held and students are praised for their achievements. QASMT prides itself in this, additionally expecting students to maintain a high standard of dress and behaviour both in and out of the school with strict rules. Because of this, most students had the same mindset- do well and graduate with a high score. Although it was competitive, it was more the reason for students to band together and support one another. In a program like IB that's incredibly difficult, it was almost impossible for anyone to get through it alone- at least, that was my experience. I found that people were more than happy to help each other, sharing notes and teaching each other concepts. As the IB does not rely on a bell-curve grading system like the ATAR, this means that one person getting a high score does not make it harder for another person to do well. This is one thing that I appreciated- that we competed with ourselves to be constantly better rather than be in competition with others where people would ultimately be more selfish with resources etc. in order to do good.

The school uses technology in classrooms, but it could be more consistent. For example, there are online resources and platforms for students, but communication with parents could be improved—more regular updates and clearer use of digital tools would help.

I would recommend this school to students more interested in sports and arts rather than academics. There is a lack of attention towards the academic side of teaching, with some teachers teaching in more than one subject, sometimes with the subjects having no correlation to each other (e.g. drama & science). Not saying that the teachers or teaching faculty is bad, it could be better. The school is known for its excellence programs in sports like rugby and netball and in the arts like dance and drama, so go to wavell if that seems more your speed. The overall experience wasn't bad, but myself and my peers did experience bullying, racism, saw violence occur on campus and there was minimal help from administration to resolve these issues, therefore these things remained an issues for years.

Generally, a culture of permissiveness towards whatever teachers did, even if it was objectively harmful.

personally there was no programs or teachers who are currently at the school now that stood out to me. There was one teacher that I did have for chemistry who was very supportive and understanding although not being the class with the most well-behaved students she would always put her best interest towards the students first and would do her best to help. However, this teacher has now moved to a different school and is no longer a staff member at the school hence there are no specific teachers who stood out and there weren’t too many opportunities that the other teachers and council were able to offer to the students. To find opportunities the students had to go out of their way and research and bring these topics and possible opportunities up to the guidance officer in order to get their attention and to gain support over specific opportunities that they wanted to take on.

I would definitely recommend Brisbane bayside to others. Brisbane bayside is a smaller highschool which meant that there were far more opportunities for students such as sports, tutoring, extracurricular activities. Additionally there’s something for everyone, for example bayside offers stem programs academic excellence programs, sport extension programs. Although bayside has gotten a bad rep due to the area it is in there were never any issues for the students and overall it was a very good highschool experience for me.

I was very lucky to be a part of the stem program and academic excellence program which actually gave me a major confidence boost as it made me feel far more capable of achieving higher results and exploring new things, another aspect of highschool that shaped my experience and actually pushed me towards my current degree was taking part in a an ai for good hackathon, and due to the hands on approach from teachers I had many other opportunities arise from this such as going to Sydney to host our own Microsoft hackathon, I believe that I wouldn’t have been given this opportunity at many other schools

I would definitely recommend the school. I was the kind of student to do all kinds of extra curricular activities and the school had provided plenty of opportunities for all kinds of students. Their performance plus program and participation into CGEN competitions is a great creative outlet for arts students to develop their talents and gain exposure to industry and community. The school is also a regular sporting competitor at the state level, and has a competitive spirit that cannot be ignored across all sports programs. I was part of the basketball team, and have seen students excel in athletics, swimming, rugby, touch football and many more. The school has also welcomed a serious chess program, with mentors, a FIDE master, and chess teachers paving the way for students to get better at the game. Students have also regularly placed in district competitions and are fighting their way through higher level comps. The school has an outstanding debating and public speaking endeavour. I have adjudicated and competed at the national level, and have placed in competitions by the english speaking union and U.N youth.

Review What had the biggest impact
One of the most impactful aspects of my school experience was the mentorship program. I was paired with a senior student who guided me through my first year, helping me adjust to the new environment and offering valuable advice on managing coursework and extracurriculars.

The school isn't the biggest meaning classes are smaller which allows teachers to spend more time with students. Teachers there are fantastic and actually support you and help you. After school there are free tutorials in the library where you can request your teacher or past students the school hires and pays to come after school and tutor other students. There's a wide variety of classes ranging from the most advanced math to robotics, UAV certification classes and even working on fixing planes which was super hands on and all done inside the plane hanger. My experience was awesome, I got a wake up call in year 10 when I finally failed a math class and my math teacher saw I was truely distraught, she then talked to me gave me extra work to do checked up on me before and after class and even went to the afterschool tutoring to help me out.

Mrs Neilson was my favourite teacher and is very good at her job and makes sure each and every student understand the content and offers her help at any time. The teachers in general were the highlight of the school but also the sports program was also very fun.

Friendships, Teachers all positive aswell as the specific opportunities and programs offered at Wynnum State High School.
Reviews come from parents and former students whose link to the school we've checked. Open Day Reflections come from our recordings at 2026 open days. Words in [brackets] were unclear, and […] marks a skipped part. They reflect the school's own voice, so read them alongside the reviews. How reviews work
