How we work these numbers out
- Order. “Best match” puts schools where your exact word comes up first. “Most talked about” uses the share of reviews that mention it. Neither is a ranking of how good a school is.
- Comes up in X% of reviews is the share of the school's reviews that mention your search. The Brisbane average is the same share across all Brisbane schools.
- Speak well, mixed or raise concerns is worked out by software, using only the sentences about your search. It's right most of the time but not always, so read what people said.
- What students did comes from the sports and activities former students ticked in their review. We show it when at least 3 answered.
- Evidence is strong when 5 or more of at least 10 reviews mention it, some when 2 or more people do, and thin when only one person does.
- Facts such as fees, ATAR and enrolments come from each school's own documents. Fees cover different year levels at different schools, so compare carefully.
- Open Day Reflections come from our visits to 2026 open days. They're useful, but they reflect the school's own voice.

Review Compared with other schools
The school uses many different apps and portals for online learning such as education perfect, acer, and other school portals for uniform or tuck shop. This provides the students with simple ways to access learning or other needs, proving to be highly effective.

Review Bullying and getting to school safely
Bullying was not an issue at my school, as there was a strong focus on respect and inclusivity. I always felt safe getting to and from school, with minimal risks in the area. The school maintained a secure environment through supervision, clear rules, and a supportive community.
Review Something only students would know
One unique thing only students would know about my school is that there was an unspoken rule about the best spots to hang out during breaks. Whether it was a hidden corner of the library, a specific bench with the best breeze, or a quiet hallway, everyone had their favorite spot

In Year 12, I studied English, General Maths, Biology, Modern History, Legal Studies, and Health. I chose these because I enjoyed writing and was interested in social issues, plus they worked well with my goal of getting into uni. I was also heavily involved in sport outside of class, which played a big role in my school life and helped with time management and discipline. I sometimes wish I’d picked Psychology instead of Biology, since I found it more relatable and easier to keep up with.

QASMT wasn't the best at variety in terms of subject choices. It was very limited, and there was a strict structure for the selection process (for example, everyone had to do a language). Additionally, in my grade at least, the school removed subject options such as the Arts in Grade 11 since there were a low number of students that did it in Grade 10. Those students were then forced to pick up another subject, such as chemistry, instead. To be fair, SMT in QASMT stands for science, maths, and technology. The subjects, therefore, reflect this in offering courses mainly in these areas. There were a lot fewer creative subjects that could be found in the other QA school, QACI (creative industries). Instead, it offered subjects such as ITGS ('information technology in a global society') which would probably not be found commonly elsewhere.

QASMT is a school where the experience greatly depends on your character. It is fast-paced, competitive and highly academic-focused. If you thrive in these environments and are disciplined and self-motivated, I would highly recommend QA to you. Not only are you surrounded by like-minded students whose focus is all on achieving good grades, which in turn motivates you to work harder, but the school provides an abundance of academic-based opportunities such as clubs and events to increase your knowledge. On the other hand, if you tend to procrastinate or are not very disciplined, QASMT will likely be more harmful than good. It is incredibly easy to fall behind on studies due to the difficult nature of the IB program, and I, along with many others, were burnt out and sleep-deprived, particularly in the senior years. The IB program demands much more than the ATAR system- we have to write an extended essay, do philosophy (TOK) and undergo the CAS (creativity, activity, service) program on top of the six regular subjects. Additionally, the subjects offered at QA are much more restricting than other schools. Ultimately, whether I recommend QASMT depends on the person. If you work well under high pressure and can stay on top of your studies, then I would recommend it as it provides an environment where you can shine. On the other hand, it is incredibly demanding and stressful, so if you struggle with procrastination or do not care much for academics, then QASMT is not for you (and that's okay!).

QASMT is very diverse with students from multiple backgrounds. Many cultural events were also held, including Harmony Week, where students are encouraged to wear their cultural dress and participate in related activities. Bullying, from what I could tell, wasn't a significant issue. In a school where academics is the priority, there's a stereotypical correlation between high-achieving students and good behaviour. This is supported by the fact that I never witnessed any bullying, but it should be noted that bullying is pretty much an inevitable issue, albeit less prominent at QA.

I would recommend kg to a certain extent as the school is not very accomodating when it comes to changing subjects, as I had requested a subject change, had to follow up and chase the school regarding it two times and they ensured it’s in process, when ultimately they never got back to me after that and I never got to change. They do not treat students equally and favour particular students over others. Unfortunately kg focuses more on uniform and their image more than the actual students, which is a major flaw in my opinion. Other than that the teachers I had in my last years were really nice and helpful.

I dropped my daughter to school very early one time and she got a detention for being on her phone at 7:30 in the morning and got it taken away. Quite ridiculous I don’t think the school should be able to take my children’s belongings like that, especially that early in the morning. She was then told to go to the library and borrow a book to read instead of being on her phone. Mind you the library opens at 8.

Being a music student, I thought the opportunities were really cool (eg; getting a professional string quartet to play your composition) and loved the recording studio. Other disciplines also always had their own events like theatre performances and art showcases. It was nice to see other students work. Albeit, it is important to note that while there is this creative freedom, it is still limited by the IB guidelines and assessments.

Plenty of subjects to choose from depending on your future goals. Excellent arts department, great trades department as well as great STEM teachers. All of my teaches were really involved in their subject and wanted everyone to succeed. Personally didn't participate in any extracurricular activities but there was a plethora of options from sports to rocketry. There is also a strict no phones policie which when starting in year 7 I did not like but over the years you adjust and by the end I understood why it was a thing. It brings everyone closer together at lunch breaks as you have to actually socialise rather than just being on your phone. The tuckshop was also loved by everyone offering a wide range of foods and different specials depending on the day.

Yes, I would recommend CDSHS because it offers a strong academic curriculum, a variety of extracurricular activities, and a supportive learning environment. The school has excellent facilities and dedicated teachers who are passionate about student success. However, some areas, like student well-being support and discipline, could be improved.
Review School culture
CDSHS had a balanced culture—it wasn’t overly strict, but there were clear rules and expectations. It leaned more toward a modern approach to education, with a focus on student engagement and digital learning. The school encouraged independence but also maintained traditional values in terms of respect and discipline.

I also walked to school everyday, which had no issues. Every now and again there would be a big drama between students, but no pattern or theme. There are teachers at the school that are prepared to handle such situations with an ironclad discipline but also kind enough to be encouraging.

I am sure parents would have no idea how much fun the events they have in store for graduating students. Each cohort would have their own little thing when the year would finish. My cohort had a peg to the uniform competition, where students would eliminate each other throughout the last few months by attaching a peg on the uniform with their names on it. We also had a sleepout at school, where we played friendly competitions with teachers and amongst friends, get some food and overall shenanigans. On the last formal day of school, students also tie dyed white uniforms and had our classmates sign it with a message with a sharpie. In the same week, we also had water-park like bouncy castle sort of things on the oval, which was alot of fun. I think my school was special in that aspect. Parents ofc had to sign permission forms, but thats not the same thing as actually experiencing such events.
Review School culture
The school encouraged students to dress appropriately and wear the school uniform with pride, while also allowing a degree of personal expression. Particularly jn the older grades the sense of community was much stronger and people generally knew and were friendly with everyone in their cohort which was highly encouraged by staff.

If you got warned "the pope" was coming it meant to quickly tuck in your uniform and make sure you looked presentable as possible. Mrs Rossipope was one of the admins and was the strictest on school uniforms and everyone called her the pope.

The school administrators tried to keep it strict but we were always a lot more relaxed and most teachers would relax a bit which made for less clashing. For example our senior prank was everyone swapping uniforms for the day - boys wearing the skirts and green shirts and girls wearing the white shirts and pants, and most teachers were on board, but the admins and year level coordinator withheld formal invitations to anyone who didn't change back. Everyone was in full correct uniform aside from gender, but it was considered 'disruptive'.

Review Year 12 subject choices
i did general english, essential maths, ancient history, japanese, music, and biology. i love biology but i kind of regret choosing it as i had a really strict teacher in year 12 (different from year 10 and 11) and my friend and i didn’t like her that much and preferred the other teacher. she always gave me C’s even when i thought i did good (she was a HOD so no surprise). I also regret choosing japanese as even though i loved doing it, we got a teacher who was new to teaching high schoolers and was just really bad at teaching so we learnt basically nothing for the last 2 years of school.

Review Bullying and getting to school safely
bullying wasn’t really an issue for me but i had an incident in year 7 with a girl who was sort of bullying me (i told her to stop but she just thought it was funny and kept harassing me), anyway i told the school about it and she was disciplined and i’m pretty sure she was kicked out so i’d say the school has a pretty good way of handling bullies.
Review School culture
it was pretty chill for the most part, students were laid back and most teachers were apart from a few strict ones. everyone kinda had their own little groups which was fine.
Review School culture
Uniform and personal presentation was strict for student to abide by, however i found the rest of schools culture was firm yet fair. They did not tolerate poor behaviour

There were many instagram pages created to just disseminate pretty abhorrent behaviour. I saw at least three pages in my time, one for students taking pictures/videos of other students in bathroom stalls while they were pooping, another for just defacing school property (mostly in bathrooms; one particular video i remember was of a kid swinging on a hanging bathroom ceiling light until the cable broke), and another of just bullying random people (this was for kids in grades below me, so i didn't know anybody getting bullied by the page). No staff were notified/no staff cared to do anything about them.

The culture was very facetious, many staff disregarded student complaints (even serious ones like racism from teachers, targeted bullying amongst students, etc.) There was a very thinly veiled culture of strictness from teachers; rules and standards were enforced incredibly unevenly amongst teachers, leading to a general pervasive sense of apathy amongst students and staff in the school.

It felt somewhere between modern relaxed and somewhat traditional, which mirrored the mix of both older and newer teachers in the faculty. Students were especially modern and relaxed, rules weren't enforced until it became a problem.

Review What had the biggest impact
I remember when the school was sick of people vaping in the bathrooms so they locked all of them and you’d have to line up to use the one in the office. waiting in line all break time to use the bathroom wasn’t great. they have since changed that now though.

Bullying was somewhat an issue, it was kind of a case-by-case basis but most of them ended up with the bully being expelled or suspended from the school. I felt totally safe getting to and from school.

Kinda relax mix with strict. Due to the presence of students from multiple countries, various cultures will be represented.

Individual teachers could be more or less strict, so rules were somewhat unevenly applied, but that'll be an issue at any school. The school was not academically strict however was very picky when it came to school uniform and attire. Personally I did not enjoy this part as I didn’t believe that the school uniform policy should determine whether a student can or cannot be at school and not really heavily influence their academic outcomes. This did eventually play a role when students were not able to attend classes because of their additional piercings or nail polish which I did not think was a reasonable excuse to remove students in grade 11 and 12 from the learning environments in order to punish them.

Bullying was not an issue at my school. There were always students who were mean or picked on others, but the school always intervened before it escalated to bullying. Ever since the change in administration in 2023, the principal and vice principal immediately took disciplinary action on any students who were engaging in bullying or other banned behaviour such as vaping. I feel that they dealt with this issue a lot better than the previous administration, and in my senior years I was glad to see that a lot of those students were simply suspended or expelled if their behaviour continued. The school itself was in a very safe area with no suspicious roads or persons around. There were a couple busy main roads around the school, but the traffic control system was efficient and effective at managing that risk.

My school was strict when it came to enforcing serious rules as mentioned before, but a lot more relaxed in the classroom. Teachers were always happy to joke around and have a laugh with the students, but we always got the work done and got back on track if the conversations steered too far from the content. My school was definitely more modern than traditional, and students were a lot more relaxed and happy to support each other rather than compete with each other. I remember my friends and I would always organise large study groups to help everyone do their best for externals, when we could've just kept to ourselves and fought for the best ATAR. It was also easy to fit in with other groups; everyone was always open and welcoming and happy to hang out. New students in particular were treated like royalty; everyone wanted to get to know them and show them around and make them feel welcome and comfortable, which was really good to see.

Yes, the school didn’t really deal with it well and I think it has gotten worse now. There were plenty of suspensions and detentions for students who displayed bullying, furthermore bullying was addressed as a constant topic in parades and messages to students.

Strict especially on uniform, it seemed like they were prioritising the wrong stuff as they cared more about uniform than behaviour. It got to the point where it affected day to day life as students would be hyper fixated on uniform and this would lead to an increase in misbehaviour.

My school is relatively strict with its uniform and conduct, however, other than that, it was a casual school where staff and deputies took the time to build personal connections with the students. On the other hand, most students lacked motivation to study and were usually laid back in relation to academics. By the final grade, most people had set friend groups, but they would also regularly made friends outside their group.

Review What we like and dislike
We really enjoy how friendly the culture is there. I am happy I chose a co-ed school for my son to go to because he seems to enjoy having friends with boys and girls and spends lots of time with them. If we had to change something, it would probably just be uniform prices. But I think most uniforms cost the same in schools around so.

Bullying was an issue, I experienced it first hand and ended up getting the person bullying me suspended but only to have the rest of his friend group bully me and admin didn't believe until i had evidence which took weeks to get so therefore, i had to endure the bullying for many more weeks without intervention. The school was located in a pretty busy area. There was always school traffic and even in the drop off zones, you had to wait till it was safe enough to be dropped off. School couldn't really do much about it in the mornings, but in the afternoons there was teachers looking out for the kids, but only looked after the safety of kids taking the bus and not kids getting picked up by parents. Sometimes kids would have to cross the street, some nearly getting hit, but teachers didn't look out for them, not even a glance to see if they were crossing the street okay.

If you know anything about yeronga state hhigh schools history you would know it had a tainted past. One of the first schools in queensland to have a police officer stationed at. There were gangs who would hang around yeronga memorial park, machetes were stached incase a fight broke out, i have seen people jumped and stolen from at the school when i first started (which is unrelated to the gang past). Every year there were less and less of the graduates or soon to be...End up in jail. After a year, I left for a year and came back, i was absolutely astonished with how the school had cleaned up there act, it was truly a great environment where you could prosper and grow. The school expelled, implemented tougher rules and educated students to behave better. The park is now safe enough to walk through at night, which may not seem suprising, but having talked to historic alumni, it would seem inconceivable to them.
Reviews come from parents and former students whose link to the school we've checked. Open Day Reflections come from our recordings at 2026 open days. Words in [brackets] were unclear, and […] marks a skipped part. They reflect the school's own voice, so read them alongside the reviews. How reviews work
