How we work these numbers out
- Order. “Best match” puts schools where your exact word comes up first. “Most talked about” uses the share of reviews that mention it. Neither is a ranking of how good a school is.
- Comes up in X% of reviews is the share of the school's reviews that mention your search. The Brisbane average is the same share across all Brisbane schools.
- Speak well, mixed or raise concerns is worked out by software, using only the sentences about your search. It's right most of the time but not always, so read what people said.
- What students did comes from the sports and activities former students ticked in their review. We show it when at least 3 answered.
- Evidence is strong when 5 or more of at least 10 reviews mention it, some when 2 or more people do, and thin when only one person does.
- Facts such as fees, ATAR and enrolments come from each school's own documents. Fees cover different year levels at different schools, so compare carefully.
- Open Day Reflections come from our visits to 2026 open days. They're useful, but they reflect the school's own voice.

Bullying wasn’t a major issue for me personally, but like any large school, it did exist in some form. The school had clear policies in place and encouraged students to report issues, though how effective it was could depend on the situation. I generally felt safe getting to and from school — it’s in a busy area with lots of foot traffic and public transport options. That said, there were a few busy roads nearby, so crossing safely was important, and the school often reminded students to be cautious.

My child didn't have any issues with bullying at BSHS, she enjoyed the very social environment at school and liked being able to meet new people in her changing classes each year. Usually when bullying occurred, a head of year would be notified and further action would be taken

Review Bullying and the social scene
The school only makes minor adjustments when a child is going through bullying, and there is a large amount of students who treat certain children different. The school often sends emails home and provides the student with consolation, often seeming to not work at all.

Bullying was not an issue at my school, as there was a strong focus on respect and inclusivity. I always felt safe getting to and from school, with minimal risks in the area. The school maintained a secure environment through supervision, clear rules, and a supportive community.
Review What we like and dislike
I like the academic programs the school provides and the music and culture programs. I dislike the bullying system and child support the school gives.

Bullying was not a major issue at my school, but there were occasional incidents. The school usually responded quickly by having teachers talk to the students involved and by reminding everyone about respect and kindness during assemblies.

QASMT is very diverse with students from multiple backgrounds. Many cultural events were also held, including Harmony Week, where students are encouraged to wear their cultural dress and participate in related activities. Bullying, from what I could tell, wasn't a significant issue. In a school where academics is the priority, there's a stereotypical correlation between high-achieving students and good behaviour. This is supported by the fact that I never witnessed any bullying, but it should be noted that bullying is pretty much an inevitable issue, albeit less prominent at QA.

Overall, bullying rates at the school are quite low due to the large percentage of students being too busy focusing on their academics. However, in the instances when bullying does occur the school has a really good system of house deans/councillors which takes bullying very seriously, and works fast to mitigate the situation. The system that the school employs takes the students concerns very seriously, so bullying is never a big issue. As well as bullying, the school also takes mental health issues very seriously and the house deans/councillors are all very supportive and attentive to student concerns and problems. The Toowong area is also quite safe, as the surrounding areas are just suburban houses. Unless you are crossing illegally on moggil road, the school is not located near any suspicious people/areas and is generally really safe.

Review Bullying and getting to school safely
I wouldn’t say bullying was an issue at kg and I didn’t really see or experience, so I don’t think my opinion would be the best. I do know a few peers that changed schools because they experienced bullying so maybe the school doesn’t do a good job in mitigating bullying.

Review Bullying and the social scene
The school has policies to address bullying, and they do try to create a positive environment. My child had a generally good social experience, with some challenges, but the staff was responsive when issues arose. Overall, the school worked to promote inclusivity and a sense of community.

Review The parent community
There is a decent sense of community among parents, though it’s not overly close-knit. Some parents know each other and form friendships, but it’s more independent overall. There are events where parents can connect, but it’s not always easy to form strong bonds.

Getting to school could be a challenge sometimes. There were bus stops very close on all sides of the school, however students who walked part or most of the way had to deal with the roundabout nearby. Any official crossings were so far they weren't worth walking the extra distance and most students would just cross through the centre which was extremely unsafe. I believe there was a death at that roundabout but I don't know if it was a student or not.

Bullying was present, as it is in most schools, but the effectiveness of the school’s response varied. Some students felt that the school took issues seriously and acted quickly, while others thought there could be more proactive measures, such as better enforcement of policies or more student support services. Peer support programs and school counselors helped, but there was still room for improvement. For the most part, traveling to and from school felt safe. However, some students were concerned about busy intersections near the school and traffic congestion, especially during pick-up and drop-off times. Occasionally, there were reports of suspicious individuals near the school grounds, but the school took precautions, such as notifying students and staff.

The school has its principal exit and 3 or so minor exits along the main road in front of the school. There were always teachers or aides observing students as they left to keep them from running recklessly onto the road. I personally experienced minor harassment from students during my junior years. The school had adequate services and support, but I personally didn't use them as I didn't think I needed to. It was very safe getting to school, as there are many public busses that take students to/close to the school, but it does get crowded on busses and pathways close to the main road when everyone leaves.

Specialist Mathematics: I decided to partake in this subject because challenging myself was part of my goals, and I enjoyed math in high school and still do in university. It provides great preparation for university subjects, allowing you to have an edge over other students, but also making you someone that people are able to come to if they have questions, which allows friendships to bloom. Mathematical Methods: I took this as it was required for some also doing Specialist Mathematics. This provided foundational knowledge for the above subject, and you would usually cover the basics for Specialists a week or two before you did it there. It liked it because it allowed you to talk to people who were maybe not as academically inclined, but still wanted to put themselves out of their comfort zone. Physics: I took physics in an attempt to understand the world around me; how things moved, why things happened, what weird laws does the world follow. If I could do something again, I'd remember to NOT delete a section until I was ready to submit, it cost me a mark. Chemistry: I chose this subject because I was interested in pursuing Chemical and Process Engineering in university. It also follows the same thought process as physics, where I wanted to know why and how things happened. If I could change things about this subject, it'd be the sheer amount of memorization required for the last unit, but luckily they have updated the syllabus to make it easier. Engineering: This was a subject I chose because I thought it would lead me down the path to becoming an engineer. It certainly helped prepare me for the amount of reporting and documentation you need to do in university, and spanned subjects such as physics, chemistry, and included a lot of math. Literature: I chose to do literature because I didn't like doing persuasive speeches. I wish I could have dealt with it and go with General English instead, but I missed out on the transfer window. I guess I just was stuck with the idea that I was good at writing about stories, not writing new ones.

Personally from what I witnessed I didn't see any bullying as the standards are held quite high so nothing really happened during my time there that I was aware of. There were occasions where the principal got up on assembly and addressed some issues directly and emphasied a zero tolerance policy to bullying. I walked to and from school and never felt unsafe anytime doing so. The Kedron brook is very open and is well lit at night so not once did I worry about my safety getting to and from school. They practised lockdowns multiple times a year so everyone was prepared if anything happened. From year 7 to 12 I only experienced one lockdown but can't remember the details but the police and emergency services arrived quickly and it probably helped that there is an emergency service complex next door.

The school is safe most of the times but some of the children were crazy, I remember when there was a lockdown because a student was chasing everyone around with a knife. I don’t know if this school has fixed their security since then but I don’t think it’s the best. I did occasionally get bullied but I didn’t reach out to the teachers as it happened infront of them and they did nothing to intervene. Luckily it honestly didn’t affect me that much.
Review Would you recommend it?
The school was alright but the people in it were unbearable, for academics I would recommend it however if you were previously bullied you will most likely unfortunately be bullied here.

Review Bullying and getting to school safely
Bullying was an issue at times in the school, especially in the lower grades, but the school made efforts to address it through anti-bullying campaigns, counseling support, and encouraging students to speak up. Teachers were generally responsive when incidents were reported, although not every situation was resolved perfectly.

Bullying was an issue, I experienced it first hand and ended up getting the person bullying me suspended but only to have the rest of his friend group bully me and admin didn't believe until i had evidence which took weeks to get so therefore, i had to endure the bullying for many more weeks without intervention. The school was located in a pretty busy area. There was always school traffic and even in the drop off zones, you had to wait till it was safe enough to be dropped off. School couldn't really do much about it in the mornings, but in the afternoons there was teachers looking out for the kids, but only looked after the safety of kids taking the bus and not kids getting picked up by parents. Sometimes kids would have to cross the street, some nearly getting hit, but teachers didn't look out for them, not even a glance to see if they were crossing the street okay.
Review Camps and excursions
My favourite memory from a school camp was the night we sat around the campfire, sharing stories and laughing under the stars. It was a moment where students from different grades and backgrounds came together, and for once, there were no cliques or pressure—just a genuine sense of connection.

Not really any sus people and not really any busy roads other than one and it was great having garden city a 4 minute walk away bullying was a pretty big thing definitley for the kids below me as i knew a fair few who were getting bullied my grade, grades a few above and a few below were good but seemed like it started 3 grades below were it was pretty bad school didnt seem to do anything at all maybe tell off the kid but never really move the kid/ move them out of the class

personally, I have not witnessed any physical bulling, it is more so kids gossiping or ostracising the individual. In terms of commuting to school I never felt worried about my safety. However, it is noted that since we are next to Garden City, there may be some concerns if something was to happen over there. Normally if any of these issues arise the school holds an assembly to discuss these matters or have guest speakers talking e.g how to drive safely, anti-bulling
Review Readiness for life after school
from 0-10 a 0 did not feel prepared at all still had work paths with going into electrical but still was not prepared to go straight into working full time and felt lost and know that every or most of my peers felt exactly the same with alot not having a job for a year and not knowing what to do if they didnt go uni and the people who went uni were startled by the work load they got when they joined uni and lost alot of their social life because of it
Review Would you recommend it?
It certainly depends, i would not let my little brothers but if it was a family that their only school was macgregor or sunnybank state high etc schools of that sort i would reccomend it the people there were really good for me at least i did witness bullying alot or just snarky comments/ talking behind each others backs and drama and alot of fights but i wasnt one to get bullied so i enjoyed the time and if i could go back to those lunch breaks or arvos with my mates i probably would. The academic quality was poor unless you were musically inclined as teachers didnt really teach too well but were nice and genuine people other than a fair few good people not great teachers.
Review School culture
We had a range of competitive and laid-back students as the entry requirement for this school wasn’t purely academic based. People did mostly stick with their group. Whether it is easy to fit in will depend on how you and that friend group interact with each other. Joining extracurricular could help as this exposes you to more than just your grade level

Specific teachers made my time there greatly more manageable, but the vast majority of my interactions with staff were awful. Things that defined my school experience were constant bullying from certain staff (even executive members) and a total lack of competency in many teachers shaped me into an independent learner.

Anyone caught bullying or preying on someone else was treated very harshly and was not able to get their parents to just call in and get them out of it. Getting to school was easy. Nice 10 15 minute walk from Toombul station across the river and you're sorted or you could also walk from eagle junction station in the same amount of time, and with 4 or 5 bus stops within the outskirts of the school busses were fine aswell. There's a nice car drop off area and a massive parking lot. Roads were obviously busy but there is a sanctioned zebra walk to get to the school that is always watched and used by a teacher after school and the principle himself every single day after school acts as the traffic warden at the busiest part where cars come in drop off and park and children pass so he is awesome and is always willing to make time for you if needed.

Bullying was not an issue at my school. There were always students who were mean or picked on others, but the school always intervened before it escalated to bullying. Ever since the change in administration in 2023, the principal and vice principal immediately took disciplinary action on any students who were engaging in bullying or other banned behaviour such as vaping. I feel that they dealt with this issue a lot better than the previous administration, and in my senior years I was glad to see that a lot of those students were simply suspended or expelled if their behaviour continued. The school itself was in a very safe area with no suspicious roads or persons around. There were a couple busy main roads around the school, but the traffic control system was efficient and effective at managing that risk.

There was a clear anti-bullying policy, and students were encouraged to report any issues to the guidance counselors or teachers. I generally felt safe traveling to and from school, although there were some busy roads near the campus. The school addressed this by organizing safety workshops and providing crossing guards to help students navigate the traffic. Additionally, the school had a good relationship with local law enforcement, which helped ensure the safety of students in the surrounding area.

There were several busy roads surrounding the school, which was made aware to students through multiple road safety education sessions across the years.

There wasn’t much of an address of the bullying problem but that’s because people didn’t report it because it was so normalised by students as just banter despite being much more than that.

All schools have a bullying problem, but I'd say Rochedale handled it as well as was able. The location of the school was isolated, which did make it feel safer. They were proactive with lockdowns whenever anything suspicious did happen.

Review Inclusion and bullying
generally the students are not very welcoming to newcomers however when bullying was raised as a concern the school somewhat worked to resolve the issues. However, if this bullying issue was present but not raised to the teachers directly it was not resolved and no support was offered and teachers did not reach out and ask questions.

Bullying is a very prevalent issue. Unfortunately, the school is lackluster in the way it combats this. It took 3 separate incidents and several emails from my parents and I before the school did anything about my younger brother's bullying. The roads around the school lacked proper management and had abysmal traffic flow, and many parents drive recklessly, including crossing double white lines at no right turn signs into the drop off zone. It took until my dad's car got hit by a reckless parent for the police or the council to take any action about it.

I remeber at the start of school in the earlier grades there was prominent bullying/stigma towards the mentally diverse students, however as the years went by the we all matured i noticed that any form of stigma seemed to go away and the students would appreciate each other and our differences. Unfortunatelt as i wasnt part of juch ij it, i wasnt able to see how the school dealt with im, though i think what really helped in the background was that the school created opportunities for students to connect and realise that being mentally diverse is not something that should be stigmatised. Regarding safety the school's pretty safe other than how it is surrounded by main roads, when i drive past it sometimes students jaywalk infront of me (considerably safe though or aware that they are in fact jay walking). Maybe by increasing the size for parents to pick yo students or a bigger PUBLIC car park may resolve this issue.

Review Bullying and the social scene
My son has only had very minor bullying issues as a kid. In year 8 there were some kids playing a bit rough with him, but I think he managed to resolve it himself with some friends. Stretton has a standard of teaching kids equality and what to do in cases of bullying, so I think it's been pretty well.

Yes I think the school does. They have many policies on stopping bullying and showing respect to everyone, no matter grade or gender or what. My son has built a respectable character over the years and I attribute some of it to his schooling.
Review Expectations versus reality
I didn't expect the school to be extremely academic. I just wanted my son to grow up with some good friendships, but the school does have award ceremonies and celebrate academics well. I would say it met my expectation because of how they acknowledge good grades.

If you know anything about yeronga state hhigh schools history you would know it had a tainted past. One of the first schools in queensland to have a police officer stationed at. There were gangs who would hang around yeronga memorial park, machetes were stached incase a fight broke out, i have seen people jumped and stolen from at the school when i first started (which is unrelated to the gang past). Every year there were less and less of the graduates or soon to be...End up in jail. After a year, I left for a year and came back, i was absolutely astonished with how the school had cleaned up there act, it was truly a great environment where you could prosper and grow. The school expelled, implemented tougher rules and educated students to behave better. The park is now safe enough to walk through at night, which may not seem suprising, but having talked to historic alumni, it would seem inconceivable to them.
