Which schools suit what your child loves?
Search for a sport, instrument, subject or worry to see which Brisbane schools people mention it at, and what they said. Tick up to three schools to compare them.

How we work these numbers out
- Order. “Best match” puts schools where your exact word comes up first. “Most talked about” uses the share of reviews that mention it. Neither is a ranking of how good a school is.
- Comes up in X% of reviews is the share of the school's reviews that mention your search. The Brisbane average is the same share across all Brisbane schools.
- Speak well, mixed or raise concerns is worked out by software, using only the sentences about your search. It's right most of the time but not always, so read what people said.
- What students did comes from the sports and activities former students ticked in their review. We show it when at least 3 answered.
- Evidence is strong when 5 or more of at least 10 reviews mention it, some when 2 or more people do, and thin when only one person does.
- Facts such as fees, ATAR and enrolments come from each school's own documents. Fees cover different year levels at different schools, so compare carefully.
- Open Day Reflections come from our visits to 2026 open days. They're useful, but they reflect the school's own voice.

Review Experience of the sports program
My child was in the Mansfield basketball team and highly enjoyed it. The coach was extremely supportive and the team was extremely inclusive. It was one of my child’s favourite experiences during his high school journey.

Yes, my school offered a wide range of subject choices, allowing students to explore diverse interests beyond the core curriculum. It encouraged curiosity by offering extracurricular activities, hands-on projects, and special interest clubs related to different fields like science, art, and technology. Teachers also emphasized critical thinking and real-world applications, making learning more engaging than just preparing for exams. These opportunities helped foster a deeper love for learning and encouraged students to pursue their passions.
Review Bullying and getting to school safely
Bullying was not an issue at my school, as there was a strong focus on respect and inclusivity. I always felt safe getting to and from school, with minimal risks in the area. The school maintained a secure environment through supervision, clear rules, and a supportive community.

Review Why we chose this school
We chose Indooroopilly State High School because of its strong academic reputation, diverse student community, and excellent extracurricular offerings, especially in music, STEM and language programs. We live within the catchment, so no major move was needed, but we did consider private options and decided Indooroopilly SHS provided comparable quality without the high tuition fees. We absolutely feel the school is worth it given the quality of teaching, facilities and the wide range of opportunities available to students. It has met and, in many ways, exceeded our expectations.

Review What we like and dislike
Likes: Dedicated teachers who go out of their way to support students. Strong academic focus with extension and enrichment options. Diverse cultural environment that teaches respect and global awareness. Good music and sports programs. Modern facilities, especially the science labs and the new performing arts centre Dislikes: The school can feel quite large and sometimes a bit impersonal. Parking and drop-off zones are often congested.
Review Bullying and the social scene
The school has clear anti-bullying policies and runs regular programs to promote inclusion and respect. From our experience, staff take bullying seriously and incidents are handled promptly. The school’s pastoral care system means there are year coordinators who keep an eye on student wellbeing. Socially, our child has had a positive experience, made good friends, and feels safe and included.
Review Experience of the sports program
Indooroopilly State High School offers a diverse range of sports programs, including rugby, netball, and swimming, with both recreational and competitive pathways—general teams like inter-house competitions are open to all, while elite teams (e.g., GPS sports) require trials, which some students find exclusionary. Parents praise the coaching quality but note a lack of options for non-competitive students, suggesting more "social sport" opportunities and clearer communication about trial criteria. The school emphasizes skill development and competitive performance (especially in GPS sports), though inclusivity and team spirit could improve, as some students feel marginalized in competitive environments. Facility investment rates 4/5, with well-maintained ovals, a gym, and a pool, though older equipment needs upgrading and shaded areas for summer sports would help.

Review Bullying and the social scene
The school has policies to address bullying, and they do try to create a positive environment. My child had a generally good social experience, with some challenges, but the staff was responsive when issues arose. Overall, the school worked to promote inclusivity and a sense of community.

QASMT is very diverse with students from multiple backgrounds. Many cultural events were also held, including Harmony Week, where students are encouraged to wear their cultural dress and participate in related activities. Bullying, from what I could tell, wasn't a significant issue. In a school where academics is the priority, there's a stereotypical correlation between high-achieving students and good behaviour. This is supported by the fact that I never witnessed any bullying, but it should be noted that bullying is pretty much an inevitable issue, albeit less prominent at QA.

Some things unique to the school is that doing QA/IB is a lot different from ATAR curriculum, in that there is a lot of independent learning that needs to be done. Therefore, I would not recommend the school for students who struggles to understand concepts or work off/ search for their own online resources. Furthermore, diversity is really big in QA, so there is a huge emphasise on sharing cultures and celebrating differences, which I really enjoyed. Extracurricular activities such as robotics are also very popular in QA, and students often spend their lunch times either attending the clubs for these activities, or involving themselves in clubs for service, or even beekeeping. The SMT community is also very small and everyone basically knows eachother. Students are also very willing to help others.

I dropped my daughter to school very early one time and she got a detention for being on her phone at 7:30 in the morning and got it taken away. Quite ridiculous I don’t think the school should be able to take my children’s belongings like that, especially that early in the morning. She was then told to go to the library and borrow a book to read instead of being on her phone. Mind you the library opens at 8.

The academic subjects were a bit limited in my senior years, and only covered the sciences and maths departments. However, my school offered plenty of diverse arts and creative subjects that many students elected to study and pursue. On top of that, my school made up for the limited academic diversity by offering plenty of opportunities and pathways to explore subjects that weren't offered, and this sparked a lot of engagement and curiosity amongst students about these pathways. There were over 75 different careers that students wanted to pursue by the time I graduated, and this was a direct result of the opportunities my school provided to explore diverse interests.

The opportunities to participate in arts programs were vast and diverse; the school promoted these subjects a lot and hosted many large events to showcase the creative talents of our students, such as expo nights and live music and art nights. The music department in particular was amazing; the teacher organised a music club where students could simply come along and play music with all the different instruments. My friends and I, along with the teacher, would often come down and play songs together and engage in our passion and hobby of music, which was a really great way to take a step back from the academic workload.

The school offered a wide variety of arts programs that were accessible to all students. There were numerous opportunities to participate in music, drama, and visual arts, with regular classes, after-school clubs, and special workshops. The music program included choir, band, and individual instrument lessons, while the drama program put on several productions each year, allowing students to get involved in acting, set design, and stage management. The visual arts program provided access to a well-equipped studio and organized exhibitions of student work. These activities were frequent and well-supported, fostering a vibrant creative environment. The image that best reflects this environment would be one showing students actively engaged in diverse artistic activities, such as a group painting in the studio or performing in a school play.

However, it is noted that since we are next to Garden City, there may be some concerns if something was to happen over there. Normally if any of these issues arise the school holds an assembly to discuss these matters or have guest speakers talking e.g how to drive safely, anti-bulling

I would recommend this school to students more interested in sports and arts rather than academics. There is a lack of attention towards the academic side of teaching, with some teachers teaching in more than one subject, sometimes with the subjects having no correlation to each other (e.g. drama & science). Not saying that the teachers or teaching faculty is bad, it could be better. The school is known for its excellence programs in sports like rugby and netball and in the arts like dance and drama, so go to wavell if that seems more your speed. The overall experience wasn't bad, but myself and my peers did experience bullying, racism, saw violence occur on campus and there was minimal help from administration to resolve these issues, therefore these things remained an issues for years.

Review Readiness for life after school
After a few months I felt prepared, but after a year in business bachelors I felt like I did not belong there, and had begun to regret my decisions in high school. Though, learning cooking was a godsend.

The school was about in between. Teachers were patient about students being late, and could handle overall "students being students" without resentment or drama. My cohort/year level got involved alot with athletics day, carnivals and multicultural week, so students were quite collaborative and it wasnt hard to fit in, even as a migrant student. Across year levels, students also worked together really well. Being in multiple extracurricular activities, I had been in the position to teach, learn and mentor across every aspect of school. Student leadership was also critically based on teamwork and synergy; captains worked very well with younger leaders and being friendly and supportive was centred in the centenary culture.

Well since the cohourt was so small its sort of hard to not notice any bullying. I remeber at the start of school in the earlier grades there was prominent bullying/stigma towards the mentally diverse students, however as the years went by the we all matured i noticed that any form of stigma seemed to go away and the students would appreciate each other and our differences. Unfortunatelt as i wasnt part of juch ij it, i wasnt able to see how the school dealt with im, though i think what really helped in the background was that the school created opportunities for students to connect and realise that being mentally diverse is not something that should be stigmatised. Regarding safety the school's pretty safe other than how it is surrounded by main roads, when i drive past it sometimes students jaywalk infront of me (considerably safe though or aware that they are in fact jay walking). Maybe by increasing the size for parents to pick yo students or a bigger PUBLIC car park may resolve this issue.

The arts program was fantastic, and run by extremely passionate teachers. There were some poor teachers there - at one point I was sexually harassed by a teacher who the school knew was creepy to students and it ended up becoming a legal matter. He was let go after it escalated legally, though. Other teachers were openly racist or homophobic. Generally, a culture of permissiveness towards whatever teachers did, even if it was objectively harmful.

The school is mostly inclusive, with acceptance and celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community, and support systems for our international students. However, there was rare instances where staff or students acted inappropriately towards minority groups. I have also heard rumours of bullying, but there was no evidence to support these rumours. Although there are rare instances where discrimination is an issue, deputies and other staff were quick to react and ensured appropriate punishment was enacted.

Traditional, evolving into modern and accepting new ideologies such as LGbt whatever it is. In the sense of diversity, I couldnt have wished for a better place to be exposed to it. There has to be students from atleast 50 different countries there, and we all exist in Harmony, which is one of the schools values.
