How we work these numbers out
- Order. “Best match” puts schools where your exact word comes up first. “Most talked about” uses the share of reviews that mention it. Neither is a ranking of how good a school is.
- Comes up in X% of reviews is the share of the school's reviews that mention your search. The Brisbane average is the same share across all Brisbane schools.
- Speak well, mixed or raise concerns is worked out by software, using only the sentences about your search. It's right most of the time but not always, so read what people said.
- What students did comes from the sports and activities former students ticked in their review. We show it when at least 3 answered.
- Evidence is strong when 5 or more of at least 10 reviews mention it, some when 2 or more people do, and thin when only one person does.
- Facts such as fees, ATAR and enrolments come from each school's own documents. Fees cover different year levels at different schools, so compare carefully.
- Open Day Reflections come from our visits to 2026 open days. They're useful, but they reflect the school's own voice.

Review Support for students who struggle
There is an okay level of support for students who struggle with learning, as the school only provides them with a teacher to support them. They do not provide much encouragement to try to learn and just offer them guidance and support.

Review Balancing academics and wellbeing
I think that the school does an okay job, as they do provide counselling for students who are struggling with mental although the councillors do seem to have little to no effect, as previous students have said they are useless and don’t help at all.

A benefit to QASMT is that it provides a lot of academic support. Tutoring with alumni, and peer mentoring during lunchtime and after school were all offered and encouraged. Teachers cared about the students' learning and would often give up lunchtimes and after-school hours to aid students in their education. If students weren't passing their courses, they would be required to undergo mandatory tutoring. Similarly, the school would reach out through email to students with low grades to offer help and resources.

Not only did they run peer tutoring sessions during lunchtime, but also students often visited teachers during the teacher-run tutorials during break times. THe school also hires alumnis to share study tips, and even to teach students after school.
Review Preparing for entry
I did not do any specific preparation solely for the entrance exam. However, in the years leading up to the exam, I took tutoring classes including both private and public ones like Kumon. As the exam tested academic areas including writing and mathematics skills, I would say tutoring was especially helpful.

Review Support for students who struggle
The support for struggling students was limited. While there were some resources, it didn’t feel like enough to help students who needed extra attention. My child was one of them in year 7 and had to get her own tutor

Review Getting extra help
The teachers were extremely accessible when it came to providing support. At least in my experience, they had always encouraged us to reach out if needed and would also always be willing to have private conversations if needed.
Review Expectations versus reality
I expected strong academics, and the school delivered that, but it lacked personalized support for struggling students. It focused more on grades than overall growth.
Review What we like and dislike
What I liked most was the convenience of the location and the variety of subjects offered. However, I disliked how the school didn’t always seem to prioritize support for struggling students, and I felt that the focus was too much on academics rather than a well-rounded experience.

There were weekly morning and after school tutorials for each subject, which were run by different teachers according to the subject and the week. I barely attended them because they were just there if you had questions, but they were promoted at least once a week and were well known.

Review Camps and excursions
My favorite moment from a school camp was when we had to cross a thin, wobbly bridge over a body of water. We started from opposite sides and had to pass each other when we were in the middle. These activities helped to get to know other students, and to help them out when they are struggling.

During exam blocks, teachers in maths and science had after school tutoring available for students' pressing questions. English and humanities teachers were always keen to look over feedback and were always welcoming for students to discuss their work. Numeracy and literacy programs were available in year 11 to prepare us for year 12 Most importantly, teachers believed in their students. They knew when to be serious to tell us to get our head in the game, but also kind enough to be encouraging. They were all about student learning and always aimed to help out students in every aspect.

Very accessible. You could very easily reach them through email, before or after your class with them, or at their office which was near the class rooms. They would very easily answer any questions about assignment and would offer some words of encouragement if students were struggling.

Review Getting extra help
As I said before teachers were super accesable, you could ask them during class to come to throwing and they would almost always be obliging if they didn't have prior plans, again the after school tutoring is completely free. And peer feedback was very plentiful and engaged, we did so in each class essentially in a weekly basis.

I chose general math, general English, design, physics, biology. I chose general maths because I tried out math methods and failed miserably so I had to do general. General English I chose because it didn't seem that hard but it very much was a challenge as it's not a strong suit for me design was my fun subject where we got to draw at a more sophisticated level and learn how to tailor to customers which was very fun. Physics I chose because I found a love for it but it did turn out to be a struggle however it did help me on my engineering journey. Biology I had to choose because there was nothing else that appealed to me. My choices were mainly pushed towards mechanical engineering and they did help me get there and I dont think I would change much.

Review Subject range and curiosity
I think the school offered enough subject choices. I never felt like I had to study a certain subject or like I struggled to pick subjects. It encouraged curiosity by holding assemblies before we chose our senior subjects.

I would not recommend because they do not offer all the senior subjects that other larger schools with more students who are interested in academia would have like engineering or literature. They have little academic support for senior students only having sessions once a week for tutorials in which also get crowded closer to exam Weekes with only one teacher to share. However they do offer guidance counselling and career counselling to all senior students in order to make sure that they can maximise their studies. Yet I don’t think it is significant enough to be a reason to choose the school in particular.

Teachers were extremely accessible and open to supporting students. Many subject clubs were ran by teachers including Maths Club, English Study and Science Club, where students could come in at lunchtime or after school and spend time with teachers going through problems or understanding content. It was a very open space, with lots of group work and one-on-one mentoring available. On top of that, the school had many other opportunities available for students who didn't want to pursue an academic pathway. The vocational department was exceptional at organising TAFE courses, internships, work placements, apprenticeships and certificates and qualifications that allowed students to move straight into full-time work after graduating. Overall, struggling students had a plethora of resources and support from both students and staff for academic and non-academic pathways.

There were regular after-school tutoring sessions, and many teachers offered one-on-one support during their free periods. Review Getting extra help
Really depends on the teacher most teachers would offer students additional tutoring if required but it really depends.

Since the school was so small, it was the easiest thing to ask a teacher, One of the greatest benefits of being in a scmall school

Review Getting extra help
I think that each student can still receive help from teachers to a considerable extent. Because our school is not a large one in scale, generally speaking, during breaks or after classes, if you go to ask teachers for help, they will have time to individually answer your questions.

Review Getting extra help
Getting extra support was super easy. There was homework club which the teachers would go to which they could help with you assignments / coursework. Most teachers had office hours where you could to and see them for one-on-one feedback / tutoring sessions. Peer support was also a big part of leaderbody.

There was a lot of support available such as teacher one on one at lunches and homework clubs, we could also ask for help from HODs. Asking for extensions was also available

Pretty good? the teachers would always say we could go to their tutorials even if we weren’t in their class. and it was probably better to go to theirs anyway cause they could tell us things our teacher wasn’t supposed to.

Review What had the biggest impact
The support network. I had struggled alot through grade 11 and 12 with homelessness, they had breakfast clubs, food hampers and organised accommodation for me. They went above and beyond what was expected to help me succeed. I truly am forever grateful.

Students had a lot of access to help at my high school. Many teachers were available to help after classes, and were contactable through email. There was also weekly homework help in the library. Many students relied on each other for help in most cases.

Review Support for students who struggle
The school has a lot of support systems. My son is lucky enough not to need any of them, but they have EAL/D help for English second language, and a referral process. The process can let students have different support like autism, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, and speech difficulties.
