Which schools suit what your child loves?
Search for a sport, instrument, subject or worry to see which Brisbane schools people mention it at, and what they said. Tick up to three schools to compare them.

How we work these numbers out
- Order. “Best match” puts schools where your exact word comes up first. “Most talked about” uses the share of reviews that mention it. Neither is a ranking of how good a school is.
- Comes up in X% of reviews is the share of the school's reviews that mention your search. The Brisbane average is the same share across all Brisbane schools.
- Speak well, mixed or raise concerns is worked out by software, using only the sentences about your search. It's right most of the time but not always, so read what people said.
- What students did comes from the sports and activities former students ticked in their review. We show it when at least 3 answered.
- Evidence is strong when 5 or more of at least 10 reviews mention it, some when 2 or more people do, and thin when only one person does.
- Facts such as fees, ATAR and enrolments come from each school's own documents. Fees cover different year levels at different schools, so compare carefully.
- Open Day Reflections come from our visits to 2026 open days. They're useful, but they reflect the school's own voice.

It was a strong academic foundation, but real-world prep was a bit limited.

I chose these because I enjoyed writing and was interested in social issues, plus they worked well with my goal of getting into uni. I sometimes wish I’d picked Psychology instead of Biology, since I found it more relatable and easier to keep up with.

Review Balancing academics and wellbeing
I think that the school does an okay job, as they do provide counselling for students who are struggling with mental although the councillors do seem to have little to no effect, as previous students have said they are useless and don’t help at all.
Review The surrounding area and safety
There is a large issue with transport to school, as often there are highway congestion’s and heavy traffic before and after school times.

I was well prepared for university after high school. In fact, my first year at university felt like a breath of fresh air in comparison to my time at QASMT. For example, at QA, due to the IB, we had to undergo the CAS program. This meant that we were required to have creative hobbies (writing, art etc.), do activity (sports) and service (volunteering, charity work etc.) on top of school. This helped to enhance personal and interpersonal development in all areas rather than just academics, which aided in preparation for university. If you're able to make it through QA's rigorous program, you'll be prepared for life after high school!

My subjects were: English HL, Biology HL, Psychology HL, Maths AA SL, Chemistry SL and Japanese Ab Initio. I chose these subjects based on what I was good at and what I enjoyed. This was based off my previous grades and general interest. It also helped that the higher levels that I chose had some overlap- for example, some biology and psychology topics were the same, like neuroscience, so for me it was a good choice. However, I know some people strayed far away from that combination because biology and psychology HL were two subjects that were incredibly content-heavy and required a lot of memorisation. Ultimately, subject selection is all about playing to your strengths. If I could turn back time, I would've done AI SL instead of AA SL for maths. As a law student, I do not require a high level of maths. AA SL is more complex and difficult than AI SL but does not count as a "higher level" requirement. Therefore, as I didn't need AA SL as a prerequisite for my university degree, AI SL would probably have been a better option as it would be easier to get a good grade, which is what I needed. However, it is worth noting that unlike the current system that accepts students from Grade 7, when I arrived they only took Grade 10s, so I didn't have any chance to try out junior subjects that would have allowed me to make a more informed decision on what my subjects and higher levels should be.

By graduation, I felt reasonably prepared for the next steps, whether that was university or entering the workforce. The school provided career advice sessions and helped us with university applications, which was very useful. In terms of character, I learned a lot about perseverance and time management from balancing my workload and extracurricular activities. Teachers often encouraged us to work honestly and support each other, which helped foster a sense of integrity and teamwork. However, I think the school could have done more to teach practical life skills, like budgeting or managing stress, to better prepare us for independence.

Accounting appealed to me because I wanted to understand how businesses operate financially and I found the most interesting and my favourite because of how applicable it is to the real world, analysing financial statements of companies to invest in..

Honestly not prepared at all. The school wasn’t helpful in preparing us beyond school as when we picked our subjects for year 11 and 12 they told us not to worry about atar but ultimately lots of kids followed this advice and picked subjects based on what they enjoyed and couldn’t score a high enough atar to get into what they wanted.

Specialist Mathematics: I decided to partake in this subject because challenging myself was part of my goals, and I enjoyed math in high school and still do in university. It provides great preparation for university subjects, allowing you to have an edge over other students, but also making you someone that people are able to come to if they have questions, which allows friendships to bloom. Mathematical Methods: I took this as it was required for some also doing Specialist Mathematics. This provided foundational knowledge for the above subject, and you would usually cover the basics for Specialists a week or two before you did it there. It liked it because it allowed you to talk to people who were maybe not as academically inclined, but still wanted to put themselves out of their comfort zone. Physics: I took physics in an attempt to understand the world around me; how things moved, why things happened, what weird laws does the world follow. If I could do something again, I'd remember to NOT delete a section until I was ready to submit, it cost me a mark. Chemistry: I chose this subject because I was interested in pursuing Chemical and Process Engineering in university. It also follows the same thought process as physics, where I wanted to know why and how things happened. If I could change things about this subject, it'd be the sheer amount of memorization required for the last unit, but luckily they have updated the syllabus to make it easier. Engineering: This was a subject I chose because I thought it would lead me down the path to becoming an engineer. It certainly helped prepare me for the amount of reporting and documentation you need to do in university, and spanned subjects such as physics, chemistry, and included a lot of math. Literature: I chose to do literature because I didn't like doing persuasive speeches. I wish I could have dealt with it and go with General English instead, but I missed out on the transfer window. I guess I just was stuck with the idea that I was good at writing about stories, not writing new ones.

very prepared since i had to teach myself the content the whole of high school since the teachers didn’t and do it without help because they didn’t care so it prepared me for the real world when i don’t have any support.

yes we offered a lot of trade subjects which is good for the people wanting to do that and is one of the only schools that does that. it also allows tafe on 1 day very flexible.

There was also rooms at lunch time that student could help each other out in especially in year 12. Review Readiness for life after school
I felt quite prepared, especially in grade 12 many teachers would share their own stories from university, giving advice on maintaining study skills and how the shift can be quite jarring. The school was very supportive of pathways outside of university as well such as Tafe and apprenticeships.

Review Readiness for life after school
I did not feel prepared for life, but that's not really the point of highschool, and who is really feeling prepared right after high school? I was confident that i had what it took to achieve what i want to achieve in university. I sought feedback, maintained my routine, and persevered through work, study and social activities which was a balance i learned from highschool. The school for sure prepared me to have that balance and be able to do multiple things consistently.
Review What had the biggest impact
My teachers were very supportive and kind people that inspired me to purse education as a career. My biology and English teachers especially provided valuable life skills.
Review Year 12 subject choices
Math Methods Physics English English Extension Legal Studies Economics Spanish I was good at the humanities, and had prepared to study mathematics and economics which i now do at university. I would've changed instead to study specialist maths, but it wasn't a big deal. No regrets.
Review Getting extra help
During exam blocks, teachers in maths and science had after school tutoring available for students' pressing questions. English and humanities teachers were always keen to look over feedback and were always welcoming for students to discuss their work. Numeracy and literacy programs were available in year 11 to prepare us for year 12 Most importantly, teachers believed in their students. They knew when to be serious to tell us to get our head in the game, but also kind enough to be encouraging. They were all about student learning and always aimed to help out students in every aspect.
Review Subject range and curiosity
I think I've expressed my sentiment on extra curricular activities. The school did science showcase events, which i participated in. The school recently sent a student in a different cohort to Switzerland to explore the hadron collider and participate in a CERN program. Opportunities are there for students that want them. They also put there hand up for interschool maths competitions, events at universities, and many more.

Somehow, the school both over and underprepared me at the same time, in the sense that they didn't describe what modern-day uni is like very well.
Review Getting extra help
As I said before teachers were super accesable, you could ask them during class to come to throwing and they would almost always be obliging if they didn't have prior plans, again the after school tutoring is completely free. And peer feedback was very plentiful and engaged, we did so in each class essentially in a weekly basis.

I felt extremely prepared for life after highschool. Thanks to my teachers, I not only had the academic knowledge I needed to succeed at university and enter my desired career, but plenty of valuable life advice and practical knowledge that they imparted to me. There were many lunchtimes and lessons where my teachers would talk about their life experiences and I learnt valuable lessons about financial and mental wellbeing and stress and work management. My teachers often felt a lot like mentors rather than unknown lecturers, and thanks to them, I graduated highschool with confidence, prepared for whatever came next.

By the time I graduated, I felt reasonably prepared for life after high school. The school provided strong academic training, which helped me develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. However, I felt that there could have been more emphasis on practical life skills, such as financial literacy and time management. The career advice offered was helpful, but I think more exposure to different career paths through workshops or internships would have been beneficial. Overall, I felt equipped to take the next step into university, but there were areas where I had to learn and adapt independently.

Teachers were extremely accessible and open to supporting students. Many subject clubs were ran by teachers including Maths Club, English Study and Science Club, where students could come in at lunchtime or after school and spend time with teachers going through problems or understanding content. It was a very open space, with lots of group work and one-on-one mentoring available. On top of that, the school had many other opportunities available for students who didn't want to pursue an academic pathway. The vocational department was exceptional at organising TAFE courses, internships, work placements, apprenticeships and certificates and qualifications that allowed students to move straight into full-time work after graduating. Overall, struggling students had a plethora of resources and support from both students and staff for academic and non-academic pathways.

The reason I put the academic ranking at 7 earlier is because bayside also put emphasis on the idea that university isn’t for everyone, so apprenticeships were regularly offered, as well as certificates and the school was quite accomodating. As for university they definitely had career planning resources but I believe they could’ve been better, but they definitely tried in terms of have career expos at school and having uni reps come talk to students, but in terms of study habits and things a like they weren’t very consistent

I felt very prepared after high school. The teachers were more than teachers, they were friends. They all gave great advice on how to proceed after high school, all telling stories of their own steps into the real world. Using their advice, it made the switch between high school and the real world very easy.

I do see some parents of the younger kids sometimes talk after school while waiting to pick their younger ones up. Stretton has a nice community but I think the closeness between parents is a bit mixed.
