87 schools where people talk about careers and life after school.

Order:Best matchMost talked aboutLowest feesA to Z

How we work these numbers out
  • Order. “Best match” puts schools where your exact word comes up first. “Most talked about” uses the share of reviews that mention it. Neither is a ranking of how good a school is.
  • Comes up in X% of reviews is the share of the school's reviews that mention your search. The Brisbane average is the same share across all Brisbane schools.
  • Speak well, mixed or raise concerns is worked out by software, using only the sentences about your search. It's right most of the time but not always, so read what people said.
  • What students did comes from the sports and activities former students ticked in their review. We show it when at least 3 answered.
  • Evidence is strong when 5 or more of at least 10 reviews mention it, some when 2 or more people do, and thin when only one person does.
  • Facts such as fees, ATAR and enrolments come from each school's own documents. Fees cover different year levels at different schools, so compare carefully.
  • Open Day Reflections come from our visits to 2026 open days. They're useful, but they reflect the school's own voice.

The school put a big focus on ATAR and uni pathways, so that side was well covered. However, I think there could’ve been more practical life skills taught — like budgeting, job interviews, or managing stress after school ends. It was a strong academic foundation, but real-world prep was a bit limited.

I chose these because I enjoyed writing and was interested in social issues, plus they worked well with my goal of getting into uni. I was also heavily involved in sport outside of class, which played a big role in my school life and helped with time management and discipline. I sometimes wish I’d picked Psychology instead of Biology, since I found it more relatable and easier to keep up with.

I think that the school does an okay job, as they do provide counselling for students who are struggling with mental although the councillors do seem to have little to no effect, as previous students have said they are useless and don’t help at all.

I was well prepared for university after high school. In fact, my first year at university felt like a breath of fresh air in comparison to my time at QASMT. For example, at QA, due to the IB, we had to undergo the CAS program. This meant that we were required to have creative hobbies (writing, art etc.), do activity (sports) and service (volunteering, charity work etc.) on top of school. This helped to enhance personal and interpersonal development in all areas rather than just academics, which aided in preparation for university. If you're able to make it through QA's rigorous program, you'll be prepared for life after high school!

My subjects were: English HL, Biology HL, Psychology HL, Maths AA SL, Chemistry SL and Japanese Ab Initio. I chose these subjects based on what I was good at and what I enjoyed. This was based off my previous grades and general interest. It also helped that the higher levels that I chose had some overlap- for example, some biology and psychology topics were the same, like neuroscience, so for me it was a good choice. However, I know some people strayed far away from that combination because biology and psychology HL were two subjects that were incredibly content-heavy and required a lot of memorisation. Ultimately, subject selection is all about playing to your strengths. If I could turn back time, I would've done AI SL instead of AA SL for maths. As a law student, I do not require a high level of maths. AA SL is more complex and difficult than AI SL but does not count as a "higher level" requirement. Therefore, as I didn't need AA SL as a prerequisite for my university degree, AI SL would probably have been a better option as it would be easier to get a good grade, which is what I needed. However, it is worth noting that unlike the current system that accepts students from Grade 7, when I arrived they only took Grade 10s, so I didn't have any chance to try out junior subjects that would have allowed me to make a more informed decision on what my subjects and higher levels should be.

By graduation, I felt reasonably prepared for the next steps, whether that was university or entering the workforce. The school provided career advice sessions and helped us with university applications, which was very useful. In terms of character, I learned a lot about perseverance and time management from balancing my workload and extracurricular activities. Teachers often encouraged us to work honestly and support each other, which helped foster a sense of integrity and teamwork. However, I think the school could have done more to teach practical life skills, like budgeting or managing stress, to better prepare us for independence.

I picked these subjects because I’ve always been interested in STEM fields and wanted to keep my options open for university courses in science or business. Accounting appealed to me because I wanted to understand how businesses operate financially and I found the most interesting and my favourite because of how applicable it is to the real world, analysing financial statements of companies to invest in..

Honestly not prepared at all. The school wasn’t helpful in preparing us beyond school as when we picked our subjects for year 11 and 12 they told us not to worry about atar but ultimately lots of kids followed this advice and picked subjects based on what they enjoyed and couldn’t score a high enough atar to get into what they wanted.

It provides great preparation for university subjects, allowing you to have an edge over other students, but also making you someone that people are able to come to if they have questions, which allows friendships to bloom. Mathematical Methods: I took this as it was required for some also doing Specialist Mathematics. This provided foundational knowledge for the above subject, and you would usually cover the basics for Specialists a week or two before you did it there. It liked it because it allowed you to talk to people who were maybe not as academically inclined, but still wanted to put themselves out of their comfort zone. Physics: I took physics in an attempt to understand the world around me; how things moved, why things happened, what weird laws does the world follow. If I could do something again, I'd remember to NOT delete a section until I was ready to submit, it cost me a mark. Chemistry: I chose this subject because I was interested in pursuing Chemical and Process Engineering in university. It also follows the same thought process as physics, where I wanted to know why and how things happened. If I could change things about this subject, it'd be the sheer amount of memorization required for the last unit, but luckily they have updated the syllabus to make it easier. Engineering: This was a subject I chose because I thought it would lead me down the path to becoming an engineer. It certainly helped prepare me for the amount of reporting and documentation you need to do in university, and spanned subjects such as physics, chemistry, and included a lot of math. Literature: I chose to do literature because I didn't like doing persuasive speeches. I wish I could have dealt with it and go with General English instead, but I missed out on the transfer window. I guess I just was stuck with the idea that I was good at writing about stories, not writing new ones.

Didn't feel prepared at all. There were a lot of skills that myself and my peers had to learn in our first year of university that we were not even aware about. Teachers didn't discuss the options we had after high school in detail and a lot of important information was left out. Felt very unstable going into my first year. School didn't do well at preparing other students character as some of them were bullies, which the school enabled, excessive use of foul language, dishonesty and the list goes on.

    Review Year 12 subject choices

In Grade 12, I chose subjects like English, Mathematics, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Geography. I selected them because I was interested in science and wanted to keep my options open for careers in health or environmental studies. At the time, these subjects felt like the best fit for my strengths and future goals.

I did not feel prepared for life, but that's not really the point of highschool, and who is really feeling prepared right after high school? I was confident that i had what it took to achieve what i want to achieve in university. I sought feedback, maintained my routine, and persevered through work, study and social activities which was a balance i learned from highschool. The school for sure prepared me to have that balance and be able to do multiple things consistently.

Review Readiness for life after school

They made a strive to make us prepared for university and honestly they did a decent job but in my honest opinion they really cannot prepare you, everyone will have a unique experience everyone journey will be different and you cannot tailor your teaching to every student. However, they tried their best to help us in our transition and it did help, they had one on one talks with students about choosing their degree and were blatantly honest with whether you could make it or not which I thank them for.

Somehow, the school both over and underprepared me at the same time, in the sense that they didn't describe what modern-day uni is like very well.

    Review Getting extra help

As I said before teachers were super accesable, you could ask them during class to come to throwing and they would almost always be obliging if they didn't have prior plans, again the after school tutoring is completely free. And peer feedback was very plentiful and engaged, we did so in each class essentially in a weekly basis.

    Review Subject range and curiosity

Most interesting ones were one where you worked on a plane so something with mechanics, they also had design like art but more tailored towards learning how to tailor to customers, they also had some really cool history classes which I didn't take. There were also many activities during lunch and after school which were related to science technology and planes and UAV so there were many opportunities.

    Review Would you recommend it?

The school isn't the biggest meaning classes are smaller which allows teachers to spend more time with students. Teachers there are fantastic and actually support you and help you. After school there are free tutorials in the library where you can request your teacher or past students the school hires and pays to come after school and tutor other students. There's a wide variety of classes ranging from the most advanced math to robotics, UAV certification classes and even working on fixing planes which was super hands on and all done inside the plane hanger. My experience was awesome, I got a wake up call in year 10 when I finally failed a math class and my math teacher saw I was truely distraught, she then talked to me gave me extra work to do checked up on me before and after class and even went to the afterschool tutoring to help me out.

Review Bullying and getting to school safely

Bullying was most defienkty not a problem, teachers were out on patrol like hawks not only during lunch hours but inbetween classes to catch anyone sus. Anyone caught bullying or preying on someone else was treated very harshly and was not able to get their parents to just call in and get them out of it. Getting to school was easy. Nice 10 15 minute walk from Toombul station across the river and you're sorted or you could also walk from eagle junction station in the same amount of time, and with 4 or 5 bus stops within the outskirts of the school busses were fine aswell. There's a nice car drop off area and a massive parking lot. Roads were obviously busy but there is a sanctioned zebra walk to get to the school that is always watched and used by a teacher after school and the principle himself every single day after school acts as the traffic warden at the busiest part where cars come in drop off and park and children pass so he is awesome and is always willing to make time for you if needed.

Review Coaching and chances to compete

I did t do it at a competitive place but it was cool and with the competitive ones they had training before school, after school and even some during weekends so that would've been good for them.tge other students were also coached during their classes but imorubing the general students skill wasn't super encouraged, the elites though we're very much encouraged and it did help them win a bunch.

Teachers were extremely accessible and open to supporting students. Many subject clubs were ran by teachers including Maths Club, English Study and Science Club, where students could come in at lunchtime or after school and spend time with teachers going through problems or understanding content. It was a very open space, with lots of group work and one-on-one mentoring available. On top of that, the school had many other opportunities available for students who didn't want to pursue an academic pathway. The vocational department was exceptional at organising TAFE courses, internships, work placements, apprenticeships and certificates and qualifications that allowed students to move straight into full-time work after graduating. Overall, struggling students had a plethora of resources and support from both students and staff for academic and non-academic pathways.

I breezed through school with very little effort which made it kind of hard for me to learn how to apply myself once I started university and work. I wish overachieving wasn't treated as an excuse to neglect building the life skills school is supposed to teach in addition to the academics.

As for university they definitely had career planning resources but I believe they could’ve been better, but they definitely tried in terms of have career expos at school and having uni reps come talk to students, but in terms of study habits and things a like they weren’t very consistent

Review Readiness for life after school

Once I graduated, I was a bit unsure of how I felt going in to university, but after a year, I feel like going in to university I was not fully prepared, but it is easy to get the hang of. Most of the first semester was content I learned in high school, so I felt relatively prepared and had a strong base of prior knowledge.

I did general math, general English, psychology, geography, ancient history and legal studies. I chose them as I enjoy social studies and I wanted to pursue a career in law. These subjects were ideal and what interested me most. However, originally I was going to do biology instead of geography, but due to schedules clashing, I had to take geography. In the end I’m very happy with those subjects and I do not regret any of them.

    Review The parent community

I do see some parents of the younger kids sometimes talk after school while waiting to pick their younger ones up. Stretton has a nice community but I think the closeness between parents is a bit mixed.

Reviews come from parents and former students whose link to the school we've checked. Open Day Reflections come from our recordings at 2026 open days. Words in [brackets] were unclear, and […] marks a skipped part. They reflect the school's own voice, so read them alongside the reviews. How reviews work
