Independent learning is very strong in this school. Whilst there is support, due to the nature of the curriculum, a lot of independent study is required.

What stands out in your memory that reflects QASMT’s culture or spirit?

School's culture is very competitive but peers are very welcoming and it's a very collaborative environment. Academically the expectations are very strict and traditional, but teachers are generally very supportive in the learning process.

Yes, the IB curriculum is very rigorous and extracurricular opportunities are also plentiful, with academic extra-curriculars very common.

📖 Grade 12 Subjects

What subjects did you take in Year 12, and which did you enjoy or regret?

English, compulsory. Mathematics, compulsory. Economics, very interested in business and learning about big picture ideas. Physics, interested in the discipline. Chemistry, wanted to choose a fundamental discipline but I was not that interested in it near the end. French, second language compulsory in IB. Theory of knowledge, compulsory extra in IB.

🚸 Safety & Environment

What is the immediate environment around QASMT like? Are there any safety concerns nearby?

It is okay. Sometimes the younger kids would use the crossing near the Mercedes at Toowong to cross and travel to school which can be a bit dangerous. Would suggest they use the overpass way instead especially for the younger ones as my child would tell me how some kids would be irresponsible.

🤝 Parent Community

Is there a strong parent community at QASMT, or do parents tend to be more independent?

I think it’s more independent. There wasn’t many events where parents could socialize other than the awards night and the festival of creativity, however parents would become quite busy during those times if we were helping out with stalls ect. It would be good to have events where parents could meet and talk.

How well has QASMT engaged parents and responded to questions or complaints?

We didn’t have any complaints during my child’s time there, but communication was very good and parents were always informed about weekly events and things the children would be doing.

How well does QASMT integrate technology into classroom learning and communication with parents?

Definitely lots of technology. The children are always on their laptops which is where all the school work happens. It is generally quite effective for communication too.
