What’s something unique or unexpected about MSHS that only students would know?

Students in Year 7 were called ‘veggies.’ Because of the veggie straps they’d have attached to their bags. The older students usually would have unattached them from their bags.

🏫 Culture & Student Life

What stands out in your memory that reflects MSHS’s culture or spirit?

The school was a little bit traditional, especially with the uniform. Boys were made to wear buttoned shirts that were tucked in along with long socks. Girls were made to wear buttoned shirts with long skirts. The school also did not permit any crazy hairstyles. I personally didn’t have a big problem with any of these rules but I know that some of my peers did.

📚 Subject Variety

How well did MSHS offer choice and support curiosity beyond exam results?

There was definitely a diverse array of subjects for students to explore. The school offered some after-school programs for students who were interested. One that comes to mind was the drone program for engineering students.

What subjects did you take in Year 12, and which did you enjoy or regret?

I did General Mathematics, Biology, Media Arts, General English, Science in Practice and French. I was quite happy with my choice of subjects.

There is a large issue with transport to school, as often there are highway congestion’s and heavy traffic before and after school times.

There are many outer school events where parents get to know each-other such as parent meeting and school sport events. This makes a very close parent community and it is extremely easy to meet other parents.

The school engages parents in many activities and listen to their suggestions quite well. Mansfield often uses parent volunteers to run events such as formal, basketball, and touch. They also allow suggestions for improvement through email, showing that the school cares about parent opinions.
