How we work these numbers out
  • Order. “Best match” puts schools where your exact word comes up first. “Most talked about” uses the share of reviews that mention it. Neither is a ranking of how good a school is.
  • Comes up in X% of reviews is the share of the school's reviews that mention your search. The Brisbane average is the same share across all Brisbane schools.
  • Speak well, mixed or raise concerns is worked out by software, using only the sentences about your search. It's right most of the time but not always, so read what people said.
  • What students did comes from the sports and activities former students ticked in their review. We show it when at least 3 answered.
  • Evidence is strong when 5 or more of at least 10 reviews mention it, some when 2 or more people do, and thin when only one person does.
  • Facts such as fees, ATAR and enrolments come from each school's own documents. Fees cover different year levels at different schools, so compare carefully.
  • Open Day Reflections come from our visits to 2026 open days. They're useful, but they reflect the school's own voice.

    Review Camps and excursions

My favorite moment from a school camp was when we had to cross a thin, wobbly bridge over a body of water. We started from opposite sides and had to pass each other when we were in the middle. These activities helped to get to know other students, and to help them out when they are struggling.

Review Something only students would know

Not much happened in the school that parents wouldn't hear about from students or general announcements, but I'd say the best tradition was was during Year 11, you have the opportunity to do the 'Leap of Faith'. This involves hitting a bell a few meters in front of you. this doesn't seem too hard, but you are also leaping from a ledge about 7 to 8 meters above the ground. You are safely attached to secure climbing equipment, and you wear a full body harness, but it still feels daunting when you leap.

    Review Camps and excursions

I never participated in camps so I cannot share my experience with them . .

Review Something only students would know

There's a common room for grade 12 students however it's never mentioned anywhere, and as far as I know the only way students find out about it is from other students (not staff).

    Review Would you recommend it?

I would recommend this school to others because it provides alternate opportunities like work experience, instead of going to Year 10 and Year 11 camp. It also has great activities in classes such as APP and HPE where you can learn leadership skills and teamwork. The Ga State High School strives to give its students the best academic experience as possible by introducing students to extracurricular activities, competitions, and experiences.

Review Coaching and chances to compete

They didn't have any coaches for the sports I played, but I was able to play in chess competitions a few times when they included our school in Year 12.

    Review Would you recommend it?

I would recommend this school, as it quite a variety of facilities available that allowed students like myself to experiment with hobbies/clubs/etc. and figure out my interests. I mostly didn't participate in extracurricular activities, however I did form a "workshop management" club together with some other students, and this was made quite easy because of how allowing the school is.

Review What had the biggest impact

Again - same club mentioned before. It provided me with opportunities to manage resources (finantial and human), as well as teach/instruct groups of students varying ages. Teamwork was something that I improved on from that experience, as it was all because the school gave us a lot of freedom to manage the club.
